"Islands of Knowledge: Malta–UAE Dialogues on Diplomacy and Archives” is an academic event organized at Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi in the context of promoting the academic agreement recently signed with the University of Malta. This agreement aims to foster international cooperation and enhance student mobility and academic exchanges between our two institutions, particularly in the fields of records management and archival studies. Shaped by centuries of Mediterranean, Arabian, European, and global interactions, Malta’s archives offer invaluable insights into diplomacy, governance, and cross-cultural exchange, resonating strongly within the UAE context.
The event was introduced by Her Excellency Maria Camilleri Calleja, Ambassador of Malta to the UAE, in the presence of L2 students. Professor Charles Farrugia, Head of Library, Information and Archives Science at the University of Malta, and National Archivist and CEO of the National Archives of Malta, delivered a lecture entitled “Bridging Cultures Through Archives: The Role of Maltese Institutions.
