Abstract

In the last decade scholars, records managers and professionals of archival sector have dedicated more attention to e-mail preservation, and the spread popularity and massive use of social media and instant messages have increased this interest. However, it is important to highlight that this subject has been globally addressed differently according to the (archival) culture of the country or, in certain cases, has not investigated at all. In this sense, if we consider the UAE legislation, there is not a proper reference to the preservation of these forms of communication leading to a “chaos” of solutions provided and distributed by private corporates without any form of standardization.
This research seminar aims to stimulate the attention of Arabic World for the e-mail and instant messages digital preservation through an international discussion by highlighting the current state, methodologies and best practices.
