Abstract

Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, in collaboration with the Embassy of Spain, cordially invites you to “El Legado Árabe” exhibition.

Embark on a journey through time and discover the most remarkable architectural landmarks left behind by eight centuries of Arab presence in Spain. From 711 to 1492, Arabs left an indelible mark on Spanish culture, forging deep cultural ties between Spain and the Arab nations. This shared history offers a unique understanding between both cultures, rooted in profound historical connections and a mutual appreciation for a distinct way of life.

The opening ceremony of the exhibition will be followed by the following events:

Synopsis

After realizing that his besieged Kingdom of Granada is doomed to disappear in the wake of pressure from neighboring kingdoms, Yusuf I, Sultan of Granada, embarks on the construction of a building that will reflect all the splendor of their civilization and will defeat oblivion: the Alhambra palaces. His vizier Ibn al-Khatib (Amr Waked), a poet and genius ahead of his time, takes part in this colossal challenge. But when the Sultan’s son inherits the throne and involves the vizier in his new vision and ideas for his reign, Ibn al-Khatib is torn between the old world and the new one that is now emerging. His chronicles tell us the story of the Granada of the 14th century, the swan song of Islamic Europe.
