Inaugural Meeting for Establishment of Global Alliance in the Middle East

Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi’s Master in Marketing, Communication and Media (MCM) program recently had the privilege of participating in the inaugural meeting at the University of Sharjah for the establishment of the Middle Eastern branch of the Global Alliance for Public Relations and Communication Management.

The University of Sharjah is renowned for its strong legacy in communications research, with the biggest communications department in the country. The event was organized by Professor Dr. Tevhide Serra Gorpe from the College of Communication, our long-term partner and one of the most renowned professors of communications science in the Middle East.

The event featured an insightful dialogue session with Prof. Justin Green, President & CEO of the Global Alliance, discussing global trends and insights in public relations and communication management. The event also featured a speech by Prof. Dr. Jairo Alfonso Lugo-Ocando, Dean of the College of Communication, outlining the vision for the University of Sharjah as a hub for promoting the communication ecosystem in the UAE. It gathered international public relations and communication professionals, including representatives from the Middle East Public Relations Association (MEPRA), the region’s leading body for PR and communication professionals and students. MEPRA is dedicated to setting world-class industry standards and advancing professional skills for communication practitioners in the Middle East.

This participation reflects our active commitment to supporting the UAE’s vibrant communication ecosystem, aligning closely with Sorbonne Abu Dhabi’s strategic goal of fostering innovation and excellence in education and research, underscoring our program’s dedication to bridging global standards with local relevance. We view this collaboration as an opportunity to expand the regional ecosystem by involving both academic and industry practices to ensure our curriculum remains at the forefront of industry trends, enhancing our students’ employability by providing them with practical knowledge and exposure to real-world communication challenges and innovations.

Looking ahead, Sorbonne Abu Dhabi’s MCM program will continue to foster such collaborations to support our students and strengthen the communication profession in the UAE and beyond. We are proud to nurture our students within this dynamic ecosystem and look forward to future initiatives that bring together academia, industry, and professional associations to shape the future of communication in the Middle East.
