Zayed Military University (ZMU)

Zayed Military University (ZMU) was established in line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, bringing together cadets from the Armed Forces, Police, the Ministry of Interior, and other national agencies within a unified setting.

This innovative model integrates high-quality military training with rigorous academic education and represents a pioneering advancement in joint professional development in the United Arab Emirates.

ZMU aims to become a world-leading institution, attracting the UAE’s most distinguished young talents to serve the nation, while applying the highest standards of education and training to prepare cadets for future security challenges.

ZMU is dedicated to coaching, mentoring, educating, and training the next generation of Land, Navy, Air Force, and Police officers. Its objective is to develop competent, knowledgeable, professional, and resilient leaders capable of defending and protecting the UAE and its national interests.

Its mission is to provide Emirati military officers with a comprehensive and broad-based university education within a military environment, while fostering personal development and enhancing professional expertise.

The ZMU project is of both national and international significance. It directly supports the UAE 2031 Vision and the Abu Dhabi Economic Vision 2030 by contributing to strategic priorities in education, security, and economic diversification. It also reinforces Abu Dhabi’s position as a global cultural and scientific hub, developing an Emirati and international workforce capable of addressing future challenges and contributing to a knowledge-based economy.

Students at ZMU benefit from a comprehensive support package that includes a monthly stipend, accommodation and meals, transportation, textbooks, and a laptop. They also have access to a full range of services, including healthcare, academic advising and counseling, learning support, library resources, and tutoring provided by both peers and faculty. In addition, they have to engage in sports activities, competitions, and student-led club initiatives. Together, these benefits create a supportive learning environment that enables students to focus on their studies and achieve their academic goals.

In the presence of H.E. Reem Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation and Chairperson of Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, Zayed Military University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 18 October 2023 with Khalifa University, Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi, and Rabdan Academy, establishing a strategic academic partnership of national significance.

This collaboration reflects a shared ambition to strengthen the integration of military and academic excellence in the UAE, while creating high-quality pathways for candidates aspiring to join ZMU and achieve their professional ambitions.

As one of the three academic partners selected by the Ministry of Defence under the 2023 MoU, Sorbonne University Abu Dhabi delivers internationally recognised programmes in the humanities and social sciences, tailored to the academic and leadership needs of ZMU.

SUAD’s distinctive contribution lies in its dual mission: supporting Abu Dhabi’s strategic vision while offering programmes aligned with the academic standards of Sorbonne Université. Through a combination of academic rigour, cultural depth, and international best practices, SUAD ensures that ZMU graduates are equipped to serve as national leaders while engaging confidently with the global knowledge economy.

Upon graduation, cadets are awarded dual degrees—one from Zayed Military University and one from Sorbonne Université—ensuring both national relevance and international recognition.

As part of this strategic partnership, SUAD delivers selected academic programmes directly on the ZMU campus. All teaching and academic activities fully adhere to SUAD’s standards of excellence, quality assurance frameworks, and pedagogical approach, ensuring consistency with its international academic model.
